Attapulgite is a specialty clay mineral that serves a variety of purposes. It is made out of tiny invisible channels that work to absorb liquids. Attapulgite is distinguished by strips that have 3 layers and are joined at the corners. This looks like a checkerboard structure with natural voids which act as pockets to fill liquid.
